Generals Bridge Dedication

The Generals Bridge & Park dedication on September 11, 2021 was a celebration of Quincy’s “modern-day patriots” where Mayor Koch and the City of Quincy dedicated a new bridge and three bronze statues and four bronze busts created by world-renowned sculptor Sergey Eylanbekov. The dedication featured a military jetfighter flyover, a Massachusetts National Guard Howitzer salute, and tales of military exploits and growing up in blue-collar families in the various Quincy neighborhoods where the generals lived in the city over the years.

The project honors seven recent generals representing Quincy from the Army, the Air Force, the National Guard and the Marine Corps, as well as generals from the past.  Their statues and busts were unveiled in a park that sits at the corner of the newly named General Dunford Drive and General McConville Way.

The $7 million new bridge spans MBTA tracks and connects the Burgin Parkway with Quincy Center.  Included in the initiative are 14 polished granite plinths.  Each plinth features an inset red granite medallion with bronze insignias of the five branches of the U.S. military and recognizes the service of all U.S. military veterans, and seven generals from the Quincy area.
